Kayne Michael

His hip dysplasia is NOT good. I wake him every day for his PT, massage and exercise. He goes on LONG walks with daddy, but there are still days...

Photobucket

When he is sore, achy and miserable. Still we snuggle, make crafts, share our pain, and kiss a lot.

Oh even though he hates it, we put him back on Wolf King Holistic Dog food for Adult maintenance. Our friend who breeds American Bulldogs said its the highest in glucosamine chondriotin, (since My Fussy pants won't eat his supplement)

Its always something isn't it?

Stupid easy sweet buns

Stupid Easy sweet Buns:

3 cups flour
3 tsp gluten
(or use 3 cups bread flour, but making your own is SO MUCH CHEAPER)
1/4 cup Olive/Canola oil
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (or one envelope)
3 tbsp sugar
1 cup warm water

Mix yeast, sugar and warm water together and let proof in warm place for 5 minutes. While yeast gts foamy, mix together remaining ingredients.
add yeast mixture and mix together until wet dough forms.

Using a scraper/flexible spatula turn dough out on lightly floured surface. Knead dough until dough is uniform in texture (should be slightly sticky, use too much flour your buns will be dry)

Place dough ball back into greased bowl and let rise while oven is warming to 375.

After 20 minutes form buns by dividing dough in halves, then quarters, then into 6 uniform balls.

Place on single baking sheet. Let rise another 20 minutes if possible.

Place buns in oven, bake 15 minutes until tapping on the bun makes a hollow sound.

Take buns from oven and lightly spray or brush with olive oil, let cool.

Makes 6 buns.

Kayne's Best Punkin Krunch Cookies

Photobucket

So my mama tells me I am gluten sensitive. A night after eating spaghetti and having a rumble tummy makes me think she may be on to something. But since I am her handsome little man and she knows whats' what, she made these kookies for me.

These Kookies use wheat alternatives. For this recipe mama used Oat flour. Now we don't buy oat flour. We are frugal crafty people. Mama buys bulk oats cheap rolled oats, then throws them in the "food processor" and scares the bejeezus out of me, and Voila oat flour.

Mama says "God Bless Kitchen Aid"

My Kayne's Best Punkin Krunch Kookies are awesome because they have "holistic" ingredients like Pumpkin, cinnamon, and flax which I think means they make woman rapturous with desire to kiss and talk baby talk to you. More important they have ingredients dogs love like Peanut butter!

So Kayne tested, and approved. Mama is going to write you a recipe and you should go make some for your favorite doggie today! (my address is available for testing kookies)

Kayne's Best Punkin Krunch Kookies:

Photobucket

First Preheat your oven to 350 degrees

Then in a small bowl combine:

1/4 C whole rolled oats
2 C Oat Flour
1/4 C Flax meal
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

In another larger bowl combine
1/2 C Pumpkin Puree
2 whole eggs
2 Tbsp Peanut/Cashew Butter
1 Tbsp Agave/Honey

Whisk together moist ingredients, then slowly incorporate dry ingredients until JUST moist! Do not over mix! Futzing with the dough too much will result in crumbly Kookies that won't hold their shape.

Photobucket

Line a pan with parchment paper.

Using a teaspoon scoop small balls onto the lined pan, after 24 kookies are formed use a fork or your oiled fingers to gently press the cookies down to about 1/2 inch thick.

Photobucket

Bake for 20-30 minutes until dry and firm to the touch, 30-40 minutes for crunchy kookies (they may fall apart easier)

Photobucket

Makes 24 small Kookies.

See? And cleanup is EASY:

Photobucket

This recipe is RIDICULOUSLY easy, even my mama can do it. And once you have the ingredients it is easy to double it and make enough treats for a few months OR for friends, bike shop dogs, Mechanic shop dogs, neighbors dogs, mail people's dogs, the nice lady at McDonalds who gives you a free kiddie cone because you are devastatingly handsome... you catch my drift.

Now Mama has my samples cooling on the window sill, so I gotta run.

Photobucket

Big sloppy wet nosed kisses!

Billy Update

So Billy has almost fully recovered. We have been fighting to find the right balance of food and supplements in order to curb his puking and help him gain more weight.

Photobucket

However he is back to smacking the 75 pound dog in the face, jumping on his sister Jayne's back and trying to ride her like a bucking Bronco when she gets uppity, and demanding to explore the front porch. In fact I was in the back bedroom when my fiance comes tearing in screaming "Billy is on the ROOF and he will NOT come down!"

I went out there to see Billy calmly standing in the rain gutter gazing fully amused at Crash wringing his hands and demanding I DO something.

I took one look at him and said "William Mercutio ******* you come down RIGHT now!"

He was inside the house in 15 seconds flat.

Crash kept saying "I called and tried treated and yelling and nothing worked!"

My friend who had seen the entire thing said "KJ used the mama voice. Mama says move it, you MOVE!"

His food still needs to be pureed and emulsified with fish oils and water (oh the smell, the horrible horrible smell)

And he still gets High Calorie Supplementation that my vet friend managed to get me "Veterinarian Strength" I asked if it was a RX he looks at me confused and says "No just simpler ingredients and cheaper in bulk"

As if I am supposed to just KNOW these things.

Billy actually comes RUNNING when he hears the cap being unscrewed. Who would have thought Fish oils, black strap molasses and vitamins would be a favorite treat. It Also has the added side effect of curbing his horking up of food. The vet thinks he was processing hairballs. Whatever, as long as this stops the constant never ending piles of partially digested cat food which I usually found barefoot at Midnight going to the can.

Billy is on the mend!!!

So its been a long time of prozac, doxycycline and Famotidine and we finally got whatever Billy had wrong with him KICKeD!

He will have to eat wet food from now on (more fat) and gets Nutro Max mixed in and also has to take antacid (or he throws up dry food)

But he is eating 2 cans of food a day trying to recover his fighting weight.

He looks GREAT.

Thank you so much for all your calls, emails, notes and prayers.

Not quite there yet

So Billy is doing FANTASTIC. The addition of the pepcid and pumpkin to his daily sustenance seems to suit the furry minion. I am posting updated pictures now:

Before as of last Wednesday:

Photobucket

And After as of yesterday. He has claimed that box as being THE perfect box and there for we cannot throw AWAY his box because its HIS.

Photobucket

Yes the little man seems to be on the mend. He is demanding an ENTIRE can of wet food a day and eating dry food at night (though we may have to switch because it seems to make him barf)

Yes my little man seems MUCH better!

Amusing Billy recovery note

Woke up to Billy beating the living crap out of his sister. Yeah I think he is on the mend... He is eating 4 times a day (prednisone does wonders for the appetite)

He gets meds twice a day, am laying off on fluids as he is drinking water on his own. And last night he and Kayne Michael decided that BOTH of them needed to lie on my chest by my face. HOOOOOOT

I made a donation today to Spay and Neuter Syracuse for Billy's Fund starter. it was only 20 bucks so far, but we are still selling things. We want to donate to Shamrock fund next.

Then Humane Association, then Wanderers Rest, then helping hounds, then Hell and Back...

Animals need MONEY!

Look who is up!

Billy is up and feeling better it seems! He is on Twice daily Doxycyline and twice daily prednisone. Also thrice daily lactlose...but after this AM of him having liquid #2 the vet and I decided to dial down the lactolose to 1/2 ml twice a day and 1/2 tsp raw pumpkin mixed in with his food twice a day. He is still getting 200 units suc cu fluids once a day (what a trooper!) AND finally 3 tsp Max Cal a day (which he LOVES so at least that and the pumpkin/wet food PUREE isn't difficult to get him to eat!)

Hopefully since he really isn't eating solids yet it will keep him hydrated AND help him not to become impacted again.

He slept with me all night only getting up to go potty (yes, freaky fur mom woke up when he got up and followed him...I also wake up when the dog has nightmares ok?!)

He is walking on his own and prefers to walk after me, only wanting to be carried by the end of the day when he is tired.

Currently he is asleep behind my head on the chair purring and putting his paw on my neck every few minutes (as if to make sure I know he is there)

THANK YOU to everyone who donated, wrote letters, called, listened to me sobbing on the phone, gave us rides, lent us carriers, and let us do mounds of puked and pooped on laundry in their washing machines!

Also on a special note, although it was too late for her to help me thank you to Shamrock Fund for giving me the idea to apply for Care credit with a co-signer and for calling our vet and getting them to give us a discount. We will hopefully be making some money for you and SANS soon! Thank you especially to Paula and Margot Hoyt, Sara (you are freaking amazing!) Wolfkens from Reddit, Amber Coon from SANS (Spay and Neuter Syracuse) Coriander, Chris' coworkers for helping him finish early to take us to the vet, Chris' brother Jeff for giving us a ride for Billy's emergency dimpaction, Ken at Erie Petco for giving me the MaxCal and wet food advice, The entire Cripple Crew for writing, calling and listening (you know who you are!!!) and my Long Hair Community Rebels "Grouchcore forever!"

I am forgetting someone, or some group I am sure, but know that Billy and his peon er..I mean Mama thank you.

Emergency disimpaction

So Billy had to go to the emerency vet and be disimpacted. We then spent the night cleaning his behind as he leaked #2 everywhere when he was too weak to get to the litter pan.

Finally he stopped having the urge to go all the time after 300ML Saline Subcu fluids.

So far our vet bill is 279 dollars. Of which we have had 140 dollars in donations and sales!

We have a balance of 139 dollars that we were able to cover with Care Credit bu at 26% interest. Who knew not having a job and being broke made you a credit risk...huh...

Today Billy demanded cuddles and is now camped out watching his Mom do some online work:

Photobucket

he remains unimpressed by mom's efforts:

But he and his mom thank everyone from the bottom of their hearts!
